Romaszkan’s Park Palace (126 Viacheslav Chornovil St.)
Baron Romashkan’s private park – green massif, which occupied the territory of a distant part of the current park around two upper ponds, for a long time parkland was private. Initially, the park and tenement house belonged to the Polish landowner – the owner of the village of Krychivtsi, Johann Józef Doshot. In 1842, a park palace was erected on the site of the Potocki summer house, which can be seen till this days. From the middle of the 19th century, Baron Antoni Romashkan became the owner of the park and the house.
Romashkan family – rich Armenian family from Moldova, which at the end of the eighteenth century received confirmation from the nobility in Lviv and Chernivtsi and acquired many villages in Galychyna. During the creation of the city park (circa 1900), Franz Romaszkan was baron, patron, founder of the Musical Society of Stanisław Moniuszko. In 1903 in a local newspaper, Baron Romashkan’s park was advertised as a venue for town festivals. From 1842 and to the entry of the Soviet authorities, the house and park belonged to the Romashkanóv family. During the reign of the Soviet Union (1939-1941) Baron’s park and the house were expropriated and robbed.
In the 70’s was made a decision to demolish the palace as a building that cannot be renovated. For many years, one of the oldest houses in the city, which miraculously managed to save from destruction, is in private property. Thanks to the new owner, Oleg Oleksiuk, the city received a completely preserved and restored architectural monument. The restoration took over 15 years. Facades and authentic interiors of the rooms were restored. Vases, fountains, sculptures, exotic plantations reappeared near the Romashkan’s palace, as they were once depicted in old park photos.
Now in the house is a restaurant-museum, open to all interested, here you can see portraits of former residents, old interiors, utility objects and furniture from those times and try the cuisine of the last century.
