Stone of the Group “Bartkiewicz” (Kredytowa Street, on the corner of Mazowiecka Street)
The “Bartkiewicz” group has adopted its name from the pseudonym of its commander Major Włodzimierz Zawadzki “Bartkiewicz”. The place where the monument stood, was the area of the ‘’Bartkiewicz” group fights during the Warsaw Uprising. The squad was formed on August 5th 1944 and fought until October 3rd 1944. The squad conducted its combat operations in the area between Świętokrzyska, Mazowiecka, Plac Małachowskiego, Kredytowa, Królewska, Marszałkowska Streets and Małachowski Square. In addition to defending its section, the group supported the battalion of Home Army (Armia Krajowa) “Kiliński”, by sent some of its troops to assist in gaining the “PASTA” building.
