First executions in Warsaw took place in October 1943, when SS-Brigadeführer Franz Kutchera, known as “the executioner of Warsaw,” took up the position of SS and police commander. Kutschera was a firm enthusiast of the plan instilled by the General Government led by Hans Frank. He was ready to fulfill any kind of duty toward Third Reich. At the time of his governance 5000 people lost their lives, most of which were ordinary Warsaw citizens. Nevertheless, Franz Kutschera was afraid of Polish secret service and was trying to conceal his identity. Thus, each announcement was signed by him as “the Commander of the SS and police in Warsaw District.” His identity was revealed by accident, when one day the officer with general’s awards came to the SS headquarters situated in palace at Aleje Ujazdowskie 23 Street. On February 1st 1944, Franz Kutschera was killed by the soldiers of “Parasol” Battalion. The day after his death, on February 2nd, 100 people were executed at Aleje Ujazdowskie Street in the act of revenge. It was one of the last public executions before the rise of Warsaw Uprising.
