Factory of the Explosives ‘Kinga’ Memory Board
In the basement of a house at Solec 103 Street there was asecret ammonite factory of the AK Headquaters Sappers Department, codenamed ‘Kinga’. Production of the explosives was a significant part of underground fight- very difficult and dangerous. It was the team of ‘Kinga’ factory that in years 1943-44 through couple of months was able to produce around 4 tones of ammonite. It is a perfect replacing explosive material which could be produced in a simple way. The factory was organized by engineer Janina ‘Janka’ Szabatowska, who was managing it (with brakes) up to the half of January 1944. In the meantime the supervisor of ‘Kinga’ was Captain Engineer Czeslaw Sudlitz ‘Kalina’ who took also from Janina Sztabowska the management of producing explosives at Sappers Dept. Factory till the end of its activity in April 1944 was managed by master Eleonora ‘Magda’ Herdegen. For the succesfull camuflage, production of detergents was organised in the basements of the building. Its manager became conspiracy member phd Jan Tabeau from Pionki. The end of activity of the ammonite factory came on April 6th 1944, when it was suddenly attacked and liquidated by Gestapo. Germans were perfectly prepared, blocking all emergency exits. Up today there is no inofrmation about who betrayed ‘Kinga’. During the bloody fight all of the team members (17 to 19 people) got hurt- part of them got killed, the others were arrested.
